The Lighter Side of Christmas Parade Committee organizes this event annually in Woodland Park for two purposes. “The first is to allow folks to shop in our great businesses here in Woodland Park,” states organizer Tracie Bennitt. “The second is that those businesses offer a percentage of their sales that day to the LSOC Parade beneficiary. This year the local Boy Scout troops 230 and 43 and Cub Scout troops 20 and 25 will benefit from the support of our local businesses.”
The Day of Giving has become an annual event that the LSOC Parade Committee brainstormed four years ago. “We wanted to create a win-win promotion associated with the parade,” Bennitt said. “This event provided a way to get folks to shop in the local businesses as well as provide funding for a local organization.” Past beneficiaries include Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Awareness, and Charitable Treasures Workshop. “Each year we have raised more money as the event has caught on with the community,” Bennitt added. “We hope to raise over $1000 again this year for the beneficiary with the support of the community.”
